What Is Narrative?
Teks narrative merupakan jenis teks berupa cerita atau dongeng yang bertujuan untuk menghibur pembaca. Ciri utama teks Narrative adalah terdapatnya (atau hal yang dianggap masalah atau pelik) dan langkah yang diambil untuk merespon masalah tersebut- ini umumnya berupa solusi atau penyelesaian http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narrative 
Teks Narrrative umumnya memiliki struktur:
- Orientation: pendahuluan atau pembuka berupa pengenalan tokoh, waktu dan tempat
- Complications/ crisis: pengembangan konflik atau pemunculan masalah
- Resolutions: penyelesaian konflik atau langkah yang diambil untuk menyelesaikan/ untuk merespon masalah
- Reorientation: penutup/ ungkapan-ungkapan yang menunjukkan cerita sudah berakhir, sifatnya opsional
- Coda: perubahan yang terjadi pada tokoh dan pelajaran yang dipetik dari cerita, sifatnya opsional

Why Do Hawks Hunt Chicks?

Once upon a time, a hawk fell in love with a hen. The hawk flew down from the sky and asked the hen, “Will you marry me?”
The hen loved the brave, strong hawk and wished to marry him. But she said, “I cannot fly as high as you can. If you give me time, I may learn to fly as high as you. Then we can fly together.”
The hawk agreed. Before he went away, he gave the hen a ring. “This is to show that you have promised to marry me.” said the hawk.
It so happened that the hen had already promised to marry a roaster. So, when the roaster saw the ring, he became very angry. “Throw that ring away at once!” shouted the roaster. The hen was so frightened at the roaster’s anger that the she threw away the ring immediately.
When the hawk came a few months later, the hen told him the truth. The hawk was so furious that he cursed the hen, “Why didn’t you tell me earlier? Now, you’ll always be scratching the earth and I’ll always be flying above to catch your children.” said the hawk
Teks Narrative sering menggunakan unsur kebahasaan tertentu, antara lain:
1. Noun tertentu sebagai kata ganti orang, hewan, dan benda dalam cerita: the hawk, the hen, the roaster
2. Past tense:
- a hawk fell in love with the hen
- the hawk flew down from the sky and asked the hen, “Will you marry me”
- the hen loved the brave, strong hawk and wished to marry him, etc.
3. Action verbs; kata kerja yang menunjukkan peristiwa atau kegiatan: flew down, went away, saw, threw, etc
4. Time connective dan conjunction untuk mengurutkan kejadian: and, but, then, before, so, that, etc.
5. Saying verb/ thinking verbs; kata kerja yang menunjukkan pelaporan/ ujaran: asked, said, shouted, told, etc.
6. Terdapat kalimat jenis Direct and Indirect:
Direct :
“This is to show that you have promised to marry me.” said the hawk.
“Why didn’t you tell me earlier? Now, you’ll always be scratching the earth and I’ll always be flying above to catch your children.” said the hawk
